Blogging at last!

Many of you who receive our newsletters have been waiting for us to get our blog up and running, so here it is at last! For those of you who are new to our network, we are Philip and Peggy Johnson. Since 1997, we have been representatives of the Internation Mission Board, seving in Costa Rica, Honduras, and El Salvador. On December 29, 2008, we arrived in Montevideo, Uruguay. We'll be living here in Montevideo until our residence remodeling is finished in Maldonado. We plan to post regularly about our life and ministry here in Uruguay.

The first question that most people ask us is, "Where on earth is Uruguay? Uruguay is a very small country on the southeastern side of South America. You can check out Lonely Planet's travel guide for good pictures and information(http://www.lonelyplanet.com/uruguayuay#). Uruguay is the 2nd smallest country in South America (it's about the size of South Dakota), with a population of slightly over 3 million.
Uruguay is a country of new and old, a culture heavily influenced by Europe. We find here all types of people! We also find the old standing right beside the new. There are many beautiful, colonial-era buildings, but there are also lovely plazas and modern buildings.

There are beautiful beaches and LOTS of wide open spaces - farmland and pastures.

We're looking forward to sharing our lives in Uruguay with you!
